Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Compiègne and its surroundings
The Compiegne Historical Film Festival is held annually in Compiegne and has become an integral part of the town's events calendar, as this important cultural event continues to delve deeply into the history of film. Many important guests of honour grace the festival, including reputed German filmmaker Volker Schlöndorff. The festival is held at the prestigious Compiegne Théâtre Impérial. If you fancy horse racing, the Hippodrome Putois is available to complement your stay in the area. Races are scheduled for noon, around 14:00 and 16:00 and there is also a restaurant on site, so a trip to the race track represents a nice day out. The race course can be found on the Avenue du Baron Roger De Soultrait.
The Compiegne Christmas Market is another permanent fixture in the local diary and it encompasses many products of which the area is proud. Running from around mid-November to early January, the market boasts local products including chocolate truffles, gingerbread as well as more seasonal traditions such as nativity scenes and the chance to meet Santa – although this is for a limited period, up until just before he must load up his gifts in his sleigh and make deliveries all over the world. Celebrate the magic of Christmas with Campanile Compiegne.
